Yesterday was a great day, especially since Lana Del Rey released a new song and a music video for that song, ‘Love.’ I think that Del Rey is such an amazing songwriter and singer, who is a true soul and always has been since day one in the music industry. She writes about things that have happened and to me, I don’t think she has ever changed, which is unusual for someone in this industry. Now onto the review of this song!
“To begin with… All you need is ‘love'”
This song is the first single off her upcoming 5th album and is 4 minutes and 39 seconds long. She announced the song on February 20, 2017 on an Instagram livestream. Shortly after that, the music video was available on YouTube. As soon as I saw people tweeting about it on Twitter, I had to go to YouTube and watch the video.
The music video starts with just a black with the music that reminded me of a clock ticking, and then Del Rey fades into the scene. She was wearing flowers in her hair and a white dress, and it was a black and white scene. She starts singing the first line of the song:
“Look at you kids with your vintage music”
I thought it was going to just be a black and white video, but then it went to color as she gets to the end of the pre-chorus and starts into the chorus.
“Sometime, it’s enough just to make you feel crazy”
And soon I realize that the music video is telling a story of a romance in space, which was a bit unusual, but at the same time I really enjoyed watching the music video. Del Rey went from singing on a stage to singing on the moon.
I saw an old truck going towards the moon and also the sun. I was truly memorized when the music video did those scenes, as well as the water scenes with the teenagers because it was just spectacular to watch. Then the shooting stars, honestly all of this looked like it was really happening.
Towards the end there were two young teenagers come flying (in a way); they grab hands and kiss one another. A true symbol of love.
“Don’t worry baby”
At this point, it goes towards all the teenagers together and they were all watching the sky. A light shines on all the faces of these teenagers, as they just look memorized by the beauty of the sky. Lastly, it goes to Del Rey and the band, and the camera goes up to the dark sky that just shined with the stars.
“To be young and in love”
Lana Del Rey is the only one, who can get away with doing the whole vintage video thing, and also make it astrological. If anyone else did a video like this, I think it would be a disaster and would not get great views. I love how the moon was seen in view almost in all scenes, it just made the video special to me.
This song really just tells you about love. It was so well written and truly speaks the truth, like most of her songs do.
The ending though, goes into the chorus, but instead of it being third person, like the last two choruses, it was first person. I think that really sent an amazing message to everyone that no matter who you are, we all love the same way. We all want to look beautiful and just truly be loved by someone with no heartbreaks.
“I’m young and in love”
Some of my favorite lyrics from the song:
“You’re part of the past, but now you’re the future”
This is the third line of the first verse, and I fell in love with this lyric. The first verse of the song spoke to me the most, beside the chorus, and I instantly fell in love with this song. This particular lyrics, as well as the first verse, brings me back to her older music, such as ‘Born To Die.’ I love that era of her music and that is probably why I fell in love with this song, and why I cannot stop listening to it.
“You get ready, you get all dressed up to go nowhere in particular”
The first part of the chorus is so true. When you think about being in love, you truly just get dressed up, but you don’t really have to go anywhere special. That is what this music video shows, in a way. The teenagers were just having fun together in the water when shooting stars came flying across the sky above them and they just were memorized by it. Love is not about money or doing anything spectacular, it is about the company of that person and just having fun doing the simplest of things.
“The world is yours and you can’t refuse it
Seen so much, you could get the blues
But that don’t mean that you should abuse it”
The second verse hit me, like a wrecking ball and honestly made me think about life and love. With lyrics like this, how could the song not be a hit. The world is always and there is so much hate and anger and danger in this world, but why? You shouldn’t abuse anything, but people take for granted so much when they should be grateful.
